Expectations

Goals:  As coaches, we want all participants to find personal improvement, team support and a  good time through participation in competitions, steady training and team building experiences

Participation Requirements:  All participants must register  and pay a participation fee.  There are no try-outs and no benches in this sport. We even welcome participants after the season begins.  We don’t expect our runners to be Olympic, but we do expect runners to be timely at practice, outfitted to run, willing to do their best and attentive to instruction.  If participants are failing more than one class they will not be allowed to participate.

Fees:  The $35 participation fee covers the cost of a uniform shirt and miscellaneous equipment needed to host meets and run practices.

Parent Responsibilities:  All practices will be held at or around the Channing Hall property immediately after school, except on the day of meets when there will be no practice.  Meets are hosted at different locations and no bussing service is available for these events.  Please have your student to the venue by 4:15 pm to warm up in time for racing from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.  We realize this can be a tight schedule and encourage parents to organize carpooling to the races. For race and schedule information please refer to the Race Schedule.  Our team mom will be getting a snack schedule out to parents.

Equipment Needed: Running is thankfully a pretty low-cost entry program.  The following are necessary items:
·         Quality running shoes
·         Sports socks
·         Shirts and shorts that allow a full range of motion
·         PE shorts and team uniform for meets
·         Water bottle

Health and Safety:   At no time should a student’s health or safety be compromised as part of training or competition.    For this reason, we will be limiting the use of personal music devices and electronics while training.  We will do our best to teach proper warm up and cool down technics to prevent injury.  We also ask that parents help students by allowing the opportunity for 8-9 hours sleep each night.
